The Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice is designed to be the first step in launching your career as a massage therapist.
Massage is the manual manipulation of muscle and connective tissue to promote relaxation and wellbeing. A massage therapist can ease tension and reduce pain, and can use special techniques to enhance function in the circulatory, lymphatic, muscular, skeletal and nervous systems. Massage can also be used to accelerate healing from injury and illness.
This massage course teaches the technique, anatomy, physiology, pathology and symptomatology to provide effective relaxation and therapeutic massage. You will also learn about communication and organisation skills to work effectively in the business side of the massage industry.
This course is aimed at recent school leavers, those looking for a career change, those re-entering the workforce, or those wishing to add massage therapy training to their existing professional skill set. It is also a perfect course for overseas massage therapy professionals wishing to ensure their training is comparable to that which is required in Australia.
Description
The Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice covers fundamental knowledge required for relaxation and therapeutic massage. It provides the foundation for further studies into remedial massage program which covers a range of subjects including lymphatic drainage, sports massage and cross fibre mobilisation.
The study of communication skills and clinic management are also vital components of this massage course.
As part of your qualification you will spend time within the AIAS Massage Clinic which operates to the public, giving you experience with real clients in a real work environment.

Career Pathways
Employment
Graduates from the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice will be competent base level massage therapists. The course provides skills in relaxation and therapeutic massage including basic health assessment and treatment. You will find employment in a range of areas including in a clinic (or in your own clinic), in a spa facility, with sports teams and in the fitness industry or in an aged care or a palliative care facility.
Common job titles for those who have studied this course are Massage Therapist or Massage Therapy Practitioner.
Further Study
Some units of study from the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice can be credited towards other courses at AIAS. Our graduates usually extend their studies to include the Diploma of Remedial Massage, Diploma of Traditional Chinese Medicine Remedial Massage, Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies or Diploma of Reflexology.
