  • This training is delivered online with compulsory face-to-face work placement at AIAS. You will need to attend one of our campuses or training centres for the work placement 2 days per week. Our training centres are open Monday – Friday and we offer you the flexibility to choose the days/hours you would like to attend.

About this course

The Diploma of Beauty Therapy course focuses on massage (facial and body), hair removal, spa treatments, lash and brow treatments, nail technology services, make-up, and aromatherapy. Plus you’ll learn how to provide advice on beauty treatments and services.

The advanced level of the Diploma of Beauty Therapy is reflected in its focus on the self-directed application of knowledge and skills. You will learn how to plan and select appropriate equipment, services and techniques, and work autonomously to perform complex technical operations. To give the course further real world relevance, some of your course work will involve participating in teams and other facets of team coordination.

This course reflects the role of individuals who would be employed as beauty therapists who provide a broad range of beauty therapy treatments and services including facial treatments, body massage and treatments, hair removal, lash and brow treatments, nail and make-up services. This role also includes consultation with clients to provide beauty advice, recommend beauty treatments and services, and sell retail skin-care and cosmetic products.

Students can choose between 2 elective streams, the skin or body stream.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is an opportunity for you to receive recognition of your previous skills and knowledge you have acquired from work experiences, life experiences, and/or through recent formal studies. Through the RPL assessment process you may be able to gain recognition in Units of competency within this course or the entire course. As within any study, students are required to complete a variety of assessments. In this course assessments include practical observations; short answer questions; case studies; research; portfolios; and reflections.

To achieve this qualification, a total of 25 units of competency must be successfully attained. These include 13 core units and 12 elective units.

Work Placement

Work Placement is structured place of work that helps prepare you for entry into the beauty industry workplace. Placement gives you an invaluable experience and the opportunity to put your theory into practice.

This course requires you to attend the clinic on campus 2 days per week to complete the 450 hours of mandatory work placement plus any allocated elective stream work placement hours. Students wishing to study the:

  • Skin Stream will need to complete 450 work placement hours and 15 Skin Stream hours
  • Body Stream will need to complete 450 work placement hours and 12 Body Stream hours


AIAS has purpose-built salons at its Brisbane and Melbourne and Sydney campuses. These are fully supervised by qualified beauticians and are open to the public to enable you to gain and refine skills and knowledge in:

  • Facial treatments
  • Body massage and treatments
  • Hair removal
  • Lash and brow treatments
  • Nail services; and
  • Make-up services

Upon successful completion of this course AIAS will issue your nationally recognised qualification.
